How should you attack the day before competition? Obviously there is more than one answer here and the best option and system is going to exist on an individual basis. That said, there are certainly things not to do the day before. Avoid anything that will make your body ache or break. Below are some suggestions on how to handle the day prior to an event.
A.
Mobility and Maintenance
* Choose 1-2 Thoracic Mobility Drills from Kelly Starrett’s Mobility WOD and spend 5-10 minutes with them.
* Choose 1-2 Upper Extremity Mobility Drills from Kelly Starrett’s Mobility WOD and spend 5-10 minutes with them.
* Choose 2-3 Lower Extremity Mobility Drills from Kelly Starrett’s Mobility WOD and spend 10-12 minutes with them.
B.
Keep the engine oiled up but don’t overdo it
* Row 5k at 60% pace
* Job 5k at 60% pace
* Swim 1k at 60% pace
C.
Mental Restoration/Preparation
* Different for everyone – could be meditation or could be gathering with friends; the key is to engage in activities that make your life full and help you recharge your batteries.
* Spend 20 minutes visualizing the event you are about to participate in. Run through all the scenarios and prepare yourself mentally for the physical stress. If you’ve already gone through it mentally, you won’t be caught off guard during the event.
